Untouchability

Untouchability is a social practice historically prevalent in India, associated with the caste system, where certain groups, deemed "untouchables," faced severe discrimination and exclusion. These individuals were often barred from social interactions, public spaces, and access to basic rights and services, under the belief that their touch would contaminate others. Though officially abolished in India’s Constitution in 1950, remnants of untouchability persist in various forms, affecting millions. Efforts are ongoing to combat caste-based discrimination and promote social equality, ensuring that every individual is treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their social background.
