Ambedkarite Buddhism
Ambedkarite Buddhism is a movement founded by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, who transformed his social reform efforts into adopting and promoting Buddhism as a means of social equality. It emphasizes rejecting caste discrimination, promoting social justice, and following the teachings of Buddha—especially compassion, equality, and non-violence. Ambedkarite Buddhists see Buddhism as a way to uplift marginalized communities, reject oppressive social hierarchies, and pursue personal and collective liberation through ethical living, meditation, and understanding of the Buddha’s path. It blends traditional Buddhist principles with the goal of social emancipation rooted in historical and cultural context.
