Spanish Reconquista
The Spanish Reconquista refers to a historical period from the 8th to the 15th century, during which Christian kingdoms in the Iberian Peninsula aimed to reclaim territory from Muslim rule. It began after the Islamic conquest in 711 and culminated in 1492 with the capture of Granada, the last Muslim stronghold. This prolonged struggle involved various battles, alliances, and cultural exchanges, shaping Spain's national identity. The Reconquista also paved the way for the Age of Exploration, as the unified Spanish kingdom sought new territories beyond Europe following the defeat of Muslim rule.
