Moorish Spain
Moorish Spain refers to the period from 711 to 1492 when Muslim Moors, mainly Berbers and Arabs, ruled parts of the Iberian Peninsula. They brought advanced knowledge in science, architecture, agriculture, and philosophy, leading to a vibrant multicultural society. Notably, cities like Córdoba and Granada became centers of learning and innovation. The period saw coexistence among Muslims, Christians, and Jews, although tensions also arose. The Reconquista was the gradual Christian reconquest, culminating in 1492 with the fall of Granada. Moorish Spain significantly influenced European culture, science, and architecture, leaving a lasting legacy.
