Cellular Respiration

Cellular respiration is the process by which cells convert glucose (sugar) and oxygen into energy, carbon dioxide, and water. This process occurs in three main stages: glycolysis, the Krebs cycle, and the electron transport chain. It allows cells to produce ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the energy molecule vital for powering various cellular activities. Essentially, cellular respiration is how our bodies and all living organisms harness energy from food, enabling growth, repair, and everyday functions while releasing waste products like carbon dioxide that we exhale.
