Aerobic metabolism
Aerobic metabolism is the process by which our bodies generate energy using oxygen. When we exercise or perform activities, our muscles need fuel, which they obtain from glucose and fats. In the presence of oxygen, these substances undergo a series of chemical reactions in cells, producing energy (ATP), carbon dioxide, and water. This efficient way of generating energy supports prolonged physical activities, like running or swimming. In contrast, when oxygen is limited, our bodies rely on anaerobic metabolism, which produces energy without oxygen but is less efficient and can lead to fatigue.
