Boko Haram
Boko Haram is a militant Islamist group based in northeastern Nigeria, founded in 2002. The name means "Western education is forbidden" in the local Hausa language, reflecting its opposition to secular education and Western influence. Over the years, Boko Haram has engaged in violent insurgency, including bombings, kidnappings, and assaults, aiming to establish an Islamic state in Nigeria. The group gained international attention in 2014 when it kidnapped 276 schoolgirls in Chibok. Its activities have led to thousands of deaths and widespread displacement, prompting regional and international responses to counter the group's violence and support affected communities.
