Religious extremism
Religious extremism refers to the belief in and commitment to strict, often radical interpretations of religious doctrines, leading individuals or groups to reject differing beliefs. This can manifest in violent actions, discrimination, or intolerance towards others. Extremists typically see their worldview as the only truth, often justifying harmful behavior in the name of their faith. While extremism exists in various religions, it represents a distortion of core teachings, which usually promote peace and understanding. It poses challenges to societal harmony, often inciting conflict and undermining communal ties.
