Aum Shinrikyo
Aum Shinrikyo is a Japanese religious cult founded in the 1980s by Shoko Asahara. The group combined elements of Buddhism, Hinduism, and apocalyptic beliefs, gaining followers by promoting a vision of a coming apocalypse. In 1995, they carried out a deadly sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway system, killing 13 people and injuring thousands. The incident highlighted the dangers of extremism and led to a crackdown on the group, which has since been designated as a terrorist organization in several countries. Today, its remnants exist under the name Aleph.
