Nerve Agents
Nerve agents are highly toxic chemicals used in warfare that disrupt the normal functioning of the nervous system. They prevent the breakdown of a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine, leading to uncontrollable muscle contractions, paralysis, and potentially death. Exposure can occur through inhalation, skin contact, or ingestion. These agents are categorized as weapons of mass destruction due to their potency and quick effects. Symptoms of exposure include convulsions, respiratory failure, and loss of consciousness. Due to their severe impact, nerve agents are banned under international law.
