Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was a jihadist leader who founded and led ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria), a militant extremist group that sought to establish a caliphate governed by their strict interpretation of Islamic law. Born in Iraq in 1971, he rose through the ranks of militant organizations, ultimately declaring a self-proclaimed caliphate in 2014. His leadership was marked by violent campaigns, brutal tactics, and efforts to expand ISIS's territory across parts of Iraq and Syria. He died in 2019 during a U.S. military raid.
