ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant)

ISIL, or the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, is a militant group that emerged during the chaos of the Iraq War and the Syrian Civil War. It aims to establish a caliphate, or Islamic state, governed by its strict interpretation of Islamic law. Known for its extreme violence and brutal tactics, including terrorism, ISIL gained international notoriety by capturing territory in Iraq and Syria. While it has lost much of its territory, it continues to pose security threats through insurgent activities and extremist ideology, influencing global terrorism and conflict.
