Muhammad Yusuf, also known as Sheikh Abdulazeez, is a prominent figure in Nigeria, primarily recognized for founding the extremist group Boko Haram in the early 2000s. The group is infamous for its campaign against Western education and prevailing Islamic practices, advocating for a strict interpretation of Sharia law. Yusuf gained notoriety for his radical teachings, which led to violent uprisings and widespread instability in northeastern Nigeria. He was killed in police custody in 2009, but his ideology continues to influence violent extremism in the region, contributing to ongoing security challenges and humanitarian crises.
