Babrak Karmal
Babrak Karmal was an Afghan political leader who served as the President of Afghanistan from 1979 to 1986. He came to power following a Soviet invasion aimed at supporting the communist government. Karmal was a member of the People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan and attempted to implement socialist reforms in the country. However, his leadership faced widespread resistance and civil strife, particularly from mujahideen fighters. Karmal's regime was heavily supported by the Soviet Union but struggled to maintain control amidst growing instability. He eventually lost power and went into exile after the Soviets pulled out of Afghanistan.
