Usul al-fiqh
Usul al-fiqh is the study of the foundational principles and rules that guide Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh). It examines how legal rulings are derived from the Quran, the Hadith (the sayings of the Prophet Muhammad), consensus among scholars (ijma), and analogical reasoning (qiyas). Essentially, it provides the framework for understanding how Islamic law is developed and applied to various situations in life. By establishing these principles, Usul al-fiqh helps scholars interpret religious texts and address contemporary issues, ensuring that Islamic law remains relevant and applicable.
