Totalitarianism
Totalitarianism is a political system where the state seeks to control every aspect of public and private life, often through oppressive means. In the context of utopianism, it can emerge when leaders attempt to implement a perfect society, sacrificing individual freedoms for a collective ideal. Conversely, dystopian narratives often portray totalitarianism as a nightmare scenario where citizens suffer under extreme surveillance, propaganda, and repression. Both utopian ideals and dystopian fears highlight the potential dangers of absolute power and the loss of personal liberties in the pursuit of a perceived greater good.
