Siachen Glacier
The Siachen Glacier is located in the eastern Karakoram range in the Himalayas, straddling the border between India and Pakistan. It is one of the world's highest glaciers, resting at an altitude of over 5,400 meters (about 17,700 feet). The region is strategically important, having been a focal point of military conflict since the 1980s. Despite its breathtaking beauty, the environment is harsh and inhospitable, with extreme cold and challenging conditions. The glacier is also a crucial source of freshwater for the surrounding areas. Managing its geopolitics and environmental concerns remains a significant issue for both countries.
