Operation Meghdoot

Operation Meghdoot was a military operation launched by India in April 1984 to secure control over the Siachen Glacier, a strategically important area in the northern Himalayas. This operation was initiated to preempt Pakistani military movements and assert India's claim over the region, as both countries were locked in territorial disputes following their 1947 and 1971 conflicts. The operation involved deploying troops to harsh, high-altitude conditions, resulting in India establishing its presence in one of the highest battlefields in the world, which continues to be a point of contention between India and Pakistan.
