Peshwa Baji Rao II
Peshwa Baji Rao II was the last Peshwa of the Maratha Empire, serving from 1774 until 1802. Born in 1775, he faced challenges in maintaining power as the British East India Company expanded its influence in India. His rule saw internal strife and the weakening of Maratha authority. After a failed alliance with the British and a brief exile, he was reinstated but lost significant power, becoming a nominal leader under British control. Baji Rao II officially ended the Peshwa title, marking the decline of Maratha autonomy and the rise of British colonial rule in India. He died in 1808.
