Baji Rao II (later Peshwa)
Baji Rao II was the last Peshwa of the Maratha Empire, serving from 1774 until 1802. The Peshwas were prime ministers who held significant power in the empire. Baji Rao II's reign saw challenges, including internal strife and external threats, particularly from the British East India Company. After losing the Battle of Assaye in 1803, he was forced to seek British protection, leading to the decline of Maratha power. Eventually, following the Anglo-Maratha Wars, Baji Rao II was deposed in 1806 and lived under British supervision until his death in 1808, marking the end of Peshwa rule in India.
