Mehmed II, known as Mehmed the Conqueror, was an Ottoman Sultan who reigned from 1444 to 1446 and again from 1451 to 1481. He is most famous for capturing Constantinople in 1453, ending the Byzantine Empire, and turning it into the Ottoman capital, Istanbul. His military strategies, innovative use of artillery, and reforms helped expand and strengthen the Ottoman Empire.
