Constantine XI Palaiologos was the last Byzantine Emperor, reigning from 1449 until the fall of Constantinople in 1453. He faced the formidable Ottoman Empire, led by Sultan Mehmed II. Despite his efforts to unite Christian factions and defend his city, Constantinople fell after a protracted siege.
