House of York
The House of York was one of the two rival factions in the Wars of the Roses, a series of conflicts in 15th-century England for control of the throne. It emerged from the Plantagenet dynasty, claiming descent from King Edward III. The Yorkists, represented by a white rose, sought to dethrone the ruling Lancasters. Key figures included Edward IV and Richard III. Their struggle for power led to significant political instability, culminating in the fall of Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485, which marked the end of the Plantagenet line and the rise of the Tudor dynasty.
