The Duke of Gloucester (later Richard III)
The Duke of Gloucester, who later became King Richard III of England, was a significant historical figure in the late 15th century. Born in 1452, he was part of the Plantagenet dynasty. His rise to power was marked by the Wars of the Roses, a series of civil wars for control of the English throne. Richard is often depicted as a villain, particularly due to Shakespeare's portrayal, but his reign (1483-1485) was brief and contentious. He died at the Battle of Bosworth Field, which ended the Wars of the Roses and led to the rise of the Tudor dynasty under Henry VII.
