Richard Plantagenet (Duke of York)

Richard Plantagenet, Duke of York (1411-1460), was a key figure in the Wars of the Roses, a series of civil wars for the English throne between the houses of York and Lancaster. As a member of the York family, he sought to claim the crown, believing he was the rightful heir. His rivalry with King Henry VI, a Lancastrian, led to significant battles, notably the Battle of Towton. Richard's death in 1460 marked a pivotal moment, but his legacy continued as his children, particularly Edward IV, played major roles in shaping English history.
