Food Allergy

A food allergy occurs when the immune system mistakenly recognizes certain proteins in food as harmful. This triggers a reaction, which can range from mild symptoms—like hives or stomach discomfort—to severe, life-threatening conditions such as anaphylaxis. Common allergens include peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs, wheat, soy, fish, and shellfish. Even small amounts of the allergenic food can cause a reaction in sensitive individuals. Managing food allergies often involves strict avoidance of the allergen and having emergency medications, like epinephrine, on hand for severe reactions. It’s important to work with healthcare professionals for diagnosis and management.
