Allergy and Immunology is a field of medicine that studies the body's defense system, also known as the immune system. Doctors here diagnose and treat conditions caused by abnormal immune responses. Allergies, for instance, occur when the immune system reacts to harmless substances like pollen or certain foods. This can cause symptoms like sneezing, itchy eyes, or serious reactions like difficulty breathing. Immunologists also deal with autoimmune diseases, where the immune system attacks the body's own tissues, and immunity disorders, where the immune system cannot adequately defend against infections.
