Pollen Allergy
Pollen allergy, also known as hay fever or allergic rhinitis, occurs when the immune system mistakenly identifies pollen from trees, grasses, or weeds as harmful. When exposed, the body produces antibodies that trigger the release of histamines, leading to symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and congestion. This immune response is an attempt to protect the body, but it results in discomfort instead. Pollen allergies are often seasonal, corresponding to specific pollen-producing plants, and can be managed with medications and avoidance strategies during high pollen seasons.
