Hay Fever
Hay fever, also known as allergic rhinitis, is an allergic response to airborne substances like pollen, dust mites, or pet dander. When exposed, the immune system mistakenly identifies these particles as harmful and releases chemicals such as histamine, causing symptoms like sneezing, a runny or blocked nose, itchy eyes, and throat. It often occurs seasonally, coinciding with high pollen counts, but can also be perennial if exposed to indoor allergens. Treatments typically include antihistamines, nasal sprays, and avoiding triggers to manage symptoms and improve quality of life.
