environmental allergies

Environmental allergies occur when the immune system reacts to substances in the environment, known as allergens. Common triggers include pollen from trees and grasses, dust mites, mold spores, and pet dander. When a person with allergies comes into contact with these allergens, their body mistakenly identifies them as harmful, leading to symptoms like sneezing, itching, nasal congestion, and sometimes, asthma. Managing environmental allergies often involves avoiding triggers, using medications, or undergoing allergy treatments, such as immunotherapy, to reduce sensitivity over time.
