Vasopressin

Vasopressin, also known as antidiuretic hormone (ADH), is a hormone produced by the hypothalamus and released by the pituitary gland. Its main role is to regulate water balance in the body. Vasopressin helps the kidneys retain water, reducing urine output and concentrating urine. This action is crucial for maintaining blood pressure and hydration levels. Additionally, it can influence blood vessel constriction. Abnormal levels of vasopressin can lead to conditions like diabetes insipidus, where the body loses too much water, or inappropriate secretion of ADH, causing water retention and low sodium levels in the blood.
