Diabetes Insipidus
Diabetes Insipidus (DI) is a condition that affects the body's ability to regulate water. Unlike diabetes mellitus, which involves blood sugar, DI results from a deficiency of the hormone vasopressin, which helps control water balance. This leads to excessive urination and extreme thirst, as the body can't retain enough water. There are two main types: central DI, caused by issues in the brain, and nephrogenic DI, due to the kidneys not responding to the hormone. Treatment focuses on managing symptoms and may include medications or dietary adjustments to help balance fluid levels in the body.
