Polydipsia

Polydipsia is the medical term for excessive thirst. It often occurs when the body loses too much water, such as from dehydration, or when there's an imbalance in hormones, like in diabetes mellitus or diabetes insipidus. This increased thirst prompts individuals to drink more fluids in an effort to rehydrate. While it can be a normal response to factors like hot weather or physical activity, persistent or extreme polydipsia should be evaluated by a healthcare provider to identify underlying causes and prevent complications.
