Drugs: Desmopressin
Desmopressin is a medication used to control certain conditions related to water balance in the body. It works by mimicking a natural hormone called vasopressin, which helps kidneys absorb water and reduce urine production. Desmopressin is commonly prescribed for diabetes insipidus (a condition causing excessive thirst and urination), to prevent bleeding in people with bleeding disorders like hemophilia or von Willebrand disease, and sometimes for bedwetting in children. It’s usually taken as a nasal spray, tablet, or injection, and requires careful monitoring to avoid side effects like water retention or low sodium levels.
