Stroke

A stroke occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is interrupted or reduced, preventing brain tissue from getting oxygen and nutrients. This can happen due to a blocked artery (ischemic stroke) or a burst blood vessel (hemorrhagic stroke). Symptoms often include sudden weakness or numbness on one side of the body, difficulty speaking, or severe headaches. Immediate medical attention is crucial, as timely treatment can minimize brain damage and improve recovery chances. Recognizing the signs, often summarized by "FAST" (Face drooping, Arm weakness, Speech difficulties, Time to call emergency services), can save lives.
