Carotid Stenosis

Carotid stenosis is a condition where the carotid arteries, located on each side of the neck, become narrowed due to plaque buildup. Plaque consists of fatty deposits, cholesterol, and other substances that can restrict blood flow to the brain. This narrowing increases the risk of stroke, as it may reduce oxygen supply or lead to a blood clot. Symptoms may not be obvious, but warning signs include sudden weakness, difficulty speaking, or vision problems. Diagnosis typically involves imaging tests, and treatment options may include lifestyle changes, medications, or procedures to open or bypass the narrowed artery.
