Neurovascular assessment

Neurovascular assessment evaluates the function of nerves and blood vessels in a limb or part of the body. It checks for proper nerve signals (such as sensation and movement) and blood flow (pulses and color). Typically, it involves examining skin color, temperature, capillary refill, sensation, movement, and pulse quality. This assessment helps detect problems like nerve injury or compromised blood flow early, preventing further damage. Performing regular neurovascular checks is important after injuries, surgeries, or if symptoms like numbness, warmth, or coldness are present to ensure the area remains healthy and to guide prompt treatment if issues are found.
