Rwandan Genocide

The Rwandan Genocide occurred between April and July 1994, when ethnic tensions between the Hutu majority and Tutsi minority escalated into mass violence. Following the assassination of the Rwandan president, extremist Hutu leaders incited violence against Tutsis and moderate Hutus, leading to the deaths of an estimated 800,000 people within 100 days. The international community largely failed to intervene, and the genocide was marked by extreme brutality. It ended when the Tutsi-led Rwandan Patriotic Front took control of the country. The aftermath included widespread trauma, displacement, and efforts toward reconciliation and justice.
