Republic of Vietnam
The Republic of Vietnam, commonly known as South Vietnam, was a country in Southeast Asia that existed from 1955 until 1975. It was established during the Cold War as a separate state opposing the communist North Vietnam. The capital was Saigon (now Ho Chi Minh City). The Republic of Vietnam was involved in the Vietnam War, receiving significant military and economic aid from the United States and other allies. In 1975, North Vietnam successfully unified the country, leading to the fall of Saigon and the establishment of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
