ARVN (Army of the Republic of Vietnam)
The Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) was the military force of South Vietnam from 1955 to 1975, created to defend the government against communist insurgents and North Vietnamese forces. Composed of land, air, and naval units, ARVN was supported by the United States and allied nations, receiving training, equipment, and funding. Its role was to maintain South Vietnam’s security, fight communist-led movements like the Viet Cong, and ultimately prevent the spread of communism in Southeast Asia. The ARVN was a key part of South Vietnam’s government and military efforts until the fall of Saigon in 1975.
