South Vietnam
South Vietnam, officially known as the Republic of Vietnam, was a state that existed from 1955 to 1975 in Southeast Asia. It was established after the division of Vietnam into North and South at the end of the First Indochina War. South Vietnam was supported by the United States and other anti-communist allies during the Vietnam War, which aimed to prevent the spread of communism from the communist North. The government faced internal conflict and opposition from the Viet Cong. Ultimately, North Vietnam captured Saigon in 1975, leading to the reunification of Vietnam under communist rule.
