Photonics

Photonics is the science of generating, controlling, and detecting light, similar to how electronics does with electricity. It includes the use of lasers, fiber-optics and light-detection systems and is used in many areas including communication, medicine, and manufacturing. By utilizing the unique properties of light such as its speed and capacity to carry information, we can develop technologies to communicate faster, diagnose diseases earlier, and build more efficient machines.
