Paris Commune

The Paris Commune was a revolutionary government that briefly ruled Paris from March to May 1871, in the aftermath of the Franco-Prussian War. It emerged from dissatisfaction with the French government and social inequalities. The Commune implemented progressive reforms, such as universal suffrage for men, separation of church and state, and worker control of businesses. However, it faced opposition from the French government, leading to a violent crackdown known as "La Semaine Sanglante" (The Bloody Week) in May 1871. The Commune is remembered as a significant moment in the history of socialist movements and urban democracy.
