Imperial France refers to the period when France was ruled by emperors, notably during the reign of Napoleon Bonaparte from 1804 to 1814, and again in 1815 for a brief time. This era was marked by significant military conquests, the spread of revolutionary ideals across Europe, and extensive reforms in government, law, and society. Napoleon's influence reshaped European borders and governance, promoting ideas of meritocracy and nationalism. However, his expansionist policies led to widespread conflict, culminating in his defeat and exile, which ultimately ended the First French Empire and restored monarchy in France.
