Commune of Paris
The Commune of Paris was a brief revolutionary government that ruled Paris from March to May 1871, following France's defeat in the Franco-Prussian War. Comprising workers, soldiers, and radicals, it aimed to implement more democratic and socialist policies, challenging traditional authority. The government sought to curb government control, promote workers’ rights, and prevent the city’s takeover by foreign armies. The uprising was short-lived, ending in a violent uprising called the "Bloody Week," when government forces retook the city. The Commune remains a symbol of grassroots revolutionary efforts and workers' self-management in history.
