Islamic Republic of Iran
The Islamic Republic of Iran, established in 1979, is a country in the Middle East governed by a blend of Islamic principles and republicanism. Following the revolution that overthrew the monarchy, Iran became a theocratic state led by religious leaders, notably the Supreme Leader, who holds substantial power. The government enforces Islamic law, or Sharia, and has a complex political system that includes elected officials, such as the President, alongside unelected clerics. Iran's culture is rich, influenced by its Persian heritage, and it plays a significant role in regional and global geopolitics, often being a subject of international scrutiny.
