City of Persepolis

Persepolis was the ceremonial capital of the ancient Persian Empire, located in modern-day Iran. Established in 518 BC under King Darius I, it served as a symbol of the empire's wealth and power. The city features impressive structures, monumental staircases, and intricate reliefs that reflect Persian art and culture. Persepolis was used for important ceremonies, including the New Year festival, where tribute was paid by subject nations. The city was largely destroyed by Alexander the Great in 330 BC.
