Darius the Great was a prominent Persian king who ruled the Achaemenid Empire from 522 to 486 BC. He expanded the empire significantly, establishing a system of provinces called satrapies with local governors, improving administration and infrastructure like roads and canals. Darius is known for his legal reforms, promoting justice and standardized laws, and for initiating projects like the royal city of Persepolis. His reign strengthened Persia’s power and set foundations for administrative efficiency, making him one of the most effective and influential rulers of the ancient world.
