Persian Royal Road
The Persian Royal Road was an ancient highway that connected the various territories of the Persian Empire, stretching about 2,500 kilometers (1,550 miles) from Sardis in modern-day Turkey to Susa in Iran. Established by King Darius I in the 5th century BCE, it facilitated trade, communication, and military movement across the empire. The road featured inns and way stations for travelers and messengers, enabling efficient relay systems. Its construction significantly enhanced the administration and cohesion of the vast empire, making it one of the most important routes in ancient history.
