Fenian Brotherhood

The Fenian Brotherhood was a revolutionary organization founded in the United States in 1858 by Irish nationalists who sought to end British rule in Ireland and establish an independent Irish republic. The group was named after the Fianna, legendary warrior bands in Irish mythology. Members were primarily Irish immigrants and they planned military actions, including raids into Canada, to gain leverage against Britain. The Fenian Brotherhood played a significant role in promoting Irish nationalism and inspired later movements, although it ultimately failed to achieve its immediate goals. Its efforts contributed to ongoing discussions about Irish independence.
